Who can donate?
Anyone!
We have created this specifically for Muslims to make zakat donations — both annual zakat al-mal donations and Ramadan-specific zakat al-fitr donations — but those aren’t the only donations we accept.
Muslims can also use this form to donate fidyah (a donation to compensate for days of fasting that were missed).
Additionally, anyone (Muslim or non-Muslim) can make a donation for the simple purpose of supporting trans and nonbinary Muslims.
How can someone become a donor?
Donors can register with us or simply make a donation on GoFundMe. The benefit of registering with us is that donors can receive information about the results of this year’s zakat distribution process and notification when we begin our next zakat collection. It will also allow us to know a little bit more about who is making donations and why, if donors choose to share that.
What is the deadline for donations?
Our GoFundMe will remain open after Ramadan, however for donations to qualify for Ramadan/Eid, they must be received by the end of Eid al-Fitr (the first day of the month of Shawwal), which is expected to fall on April 10, 2024. Those funds will be distributed after Eid, starting on April 10, 2024.
For donations to qualify as Zakat for the 1445 AH (Muslim calendar) year, they must be received on or before Dhul-Hijjah 30, 1445, which is expected to fall on July 6, 2024. Those funds will be distributed after July 7.
If we receive significant additional funds between July 7, 2024 and December 31, 2024, we may choose to make a third disbursement in January. Any funds received after January 1, 2025 will be consolidated with Ramadan donations for 2025.
Where do the funds go?
All funds donated — minus fees charged by GoFundMe or incurred during financial transfers — will go directly to individual trans and nonbinary Muslims.
The Trans Zakat Project does not charge any fees or keep any of the funds.
